Tattoos, cameras, and the parents that must have them.
Hey fam,
First, everyone must know that Sammy could have gone out different, and he chose not to. Pretty disappointing, to be fair, but I can't help but think we're better off without him. I subscribe to a theory that a sportswriter invented called "The Ewing Theory". In after 1998, the knicks sent away an aging Patrick Ewing. Ewing had always been the man in New York, getting the bulk of the shots even though his skills had slipped considerably. When the knicks traded him, they immediately went to the NBA finals the next year. The Ewing Theory says that getting rid of The Man on a given team can actually lead to immediate success when the other guys left get a chance to step up. So there. Now, if only we had a bullpen...
Here's my attempt at an extended entry, at 11:30 on Sunday night. We'll do it quickie style: Pops - so glad you finally got your camera. It's the first step in an awesome rediscovery for you. I'm gonna tease you in a few weeks with pictures of the Creative Domain facility. Prepare yourself, cause times, they have-a changed, my friend.
Momsy- Hoo boy. All I'm saying is that you'll probably be wearing turtlenecks on your visits to Moline. Glad you finally got 'er done, I know you wanted him. Send a digi pic. I want to see it. Or better yet post it on The Chop, in all its glory. Blogger can walk you through the steps to post pics.
Lauren - You're doing good. There ARE people who wake up every day just to help someone like you. They live for the chance to help people in your position. If you don't know who to call, ask me. I'll find someone. Keep rocking it, cause I'm really proud of you.
Aaron - Sorry I had to bounce on the phone today. I'll call again soon. Congratulations on the promotion, although it sounded mysteriously like a log chop in a handshake's clothing. More work.....no more pay...........(raise arm)......E-chop! By the way if you can write some back end code where you can send someone a logchop via paypal, that'd be great. Get on it, and get some furniture while you're at it. Just go to ikea, find the prebuilt room you like best, and buy every piece in it. It'll look great, and it requres minimal effort. Right up your alley :)
Me - Just got back from Vegas, where the sin city welcomed me back by taking my money and making an extremely loud drunk girl named Monica hang all over me at the Hard Rock Casino. I'm happy to see LA, if you can believe it. The job is official. I've been working like crazy the last two weeks to get acclimated, and I'm in full sponge mode as well. I have a lot to learn right now. I hate/love the feeling where there just isn't enough time in the day for me to learn everything I want to learn. Great job though, and what seem like great people too. The cool part about editorial, and moreover creative editorial, is that it's an entirely casual atmosphere. Jeans and a t shirt are more than fine on the sixth floor of the TV Guide building in downtown Hollywood. Who knew, right? I'm editing the audio commentaries for two Disney Channel movies right now. Stuff from a few years back that they're just now getting around to putting out on dvd with extra features. Seriously, the DVD market has blown up. Our shop is working on Dallas, the Flinstones, the OC, Friends, all Disney home video, not to mention about a dozen that are about to come down. This new extra content division I'm working in is just about formed. I also expect the construction of the new edit bays to finish around week's end as well. I'll have my own edit station, but I'm sharing a bay space with another assistant editor. It's awesome guys. As soon as I can work at the speed I'm capable, it'll be great. I have a ton of work tomorrow, so I'm passing out. But let it be said that we are a fantastic family. Extremely unique, but cut from the finest of cloth. We are all at such turning points in our lives, so make sure you take time to look around you. See your life, because it will never be the way it is today ever again. I'm going through a weird feeling of detachment whenever important moments happen. When I got offered my job, it was like I was sitting on the wall watching the conversation take place between me and my boss. I always handle the moment fine, but my emotions are not with me. It's a strange way to feel, and I'm trying to figure out why it's happening. As for my other ailment, it's good some days and it's bad others. That's going to be the answer I give for a long time it seems. I feel about it the way I should, which is that if this is my burden to bear, well then I got off easy. On the totem pole of life, I am of the privileged few who get to see the view.
